If you have spent any time on a lacrosse sideline, you have heard it: "Go to X!" It is one of the most recognizable calls in the game, and it is the reason our brand is called GO2X.
What is X in lacrosse?
X is the area on the field directly behind the goal. Because the goal sits in front of it, a player at X can see the whole offense in front of them while the defense has to turn its head to watch the ball.
What does "Go to X" mean?
When a coach or teammate yells "Go to X," they are telling the ball carrier to move the ball behind the goal. Going to X resets the offense, creates new passing angles, and pulls defenders out of position. It is a common place for an offense to start a play.
Why offenses work from X
- Vision: a player at X sees cutters and open teammates in front of the crease.
- Feeding: passes from behind the goal to the crease are hard for defenders to track.
- Dodging: attackers can drive from X toward the goal from either side.
